A Little Help From My Friends

It’s no big secret that Americans tend to be fierce individualists. Most of us see ourselves as expressions of our deeper selves. Our faith, our fears, our concerns, our guidelines, our art, these things are ultimately under our own supervision and not overtly connected to the world at large, let alone the Church.

Beware Of The Stage

Within our American Idol/Rock Star culture, often the goal is all about having–and keeping–the spotlight. As Christians, we belong to a least-is-the-greatest kingdom that pronounces the exact opposite, and yet worship leaders must regularly wrestle with the dynamics of being onstage in front of crowds.

Flow

The flow of a worship service is a journey. As with any journey, we have an initial starting point. It is essential to meet with your pastor before you do anything else in planning your flow.

Getting Your Songs Heard

I have said before that you don’t have to be a worship leader to write worship songs, just a worshiper. But being a worship leader does have its advantages. It gives you a laboratory to try out your new songs, and a platform to have your songs heard. So if you’re not a worship leader, you need to have at least some sort of connection with a church music department, or someone you can show your new songs to who might be able to get them used and heard.

Glorious

Every believer has signposts for their journey in faith. The day we encounter our Savior. The challenges that uncover our deep need for Him. The moments we experience God’s faithfulness.
